I love January 1st! The rest of January can “stick it” as my aunt would say but I LOVE the first.
It’s filled with so many possibilities and I am a total sucker for it. It’s a clean slate and you can make all kinds of seemingly great declarations and actually keep one or two of them. A totally new you!
No more eating bad food! More exercise! Only organic! No more shopping! No gossip!
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.. Silly, silly me.
I do try hard to keep at least one of my resolutions each year. Two years ago, I decided not to say the “F” bomb to my teenaged daughter (I know what you’re thinking – impossible) I actually held on until March. I was soo proud of myself.
I need January 1st to come along because by the end of every year, I’m thinking “chocolate for breakfast? Well it’s a bean.” “Should I exercise this week? Nah, my body deserves a break” “Drinking every night is actually good for your blood pressure”..etc.
So, January 1st gets me back on track. Here’s my list so far for tomorrow:
- Eat better
- Exercise more
- Read the paper
- Curb the curse words (my son said not possible)
- Enjoy the moment more
- Play more ping pong
- Do one big thing out of my comfort zone (this year it was the blog – the only one I kept!)
One of these ought to last until the weekend, don’t you think?
P.S. If you screw up quickly, there’s always the chance to use the first day of the month that lands on a Monday but you’ll have to wait until September 1st this year.
